Experience

Laura joined Birketts in 2007 from leading criminal chambers 2 Bedford Row, London, where she prosecuted and defended heavyweight criminal cases. She achieved an MA in Jurisprudence from Christ Church, Oxford University.

Laura is a Partner (Barrister) and Head of  our Regulatory and Corporate Defence Team. She is listed as a Leading Individual by Legal 500 [UK 2019] in Crime, Fraud and Health and Safety. She is also a nationally ranked lawyer by Chambers and Partners in Health and Safety and Transport Regulatory.

Her expertise extends to all regulatory and criminal defence including niche areas such as Dawn Raids and Coroner’s Inquests. She has particular expertise in health and safety and previously worked at the HSE Solicitor's Office; advising on health and safety prosecutions of national importance. Laura regularly addresses Boards and conferences on regulatory issues and was legal advisor to the Government in the high-profile cycle safety review.

Laura's media appearances include being interviewed by Eddie Mair on BBC Radio 4 in July 2017, discussing corporate manslaughter in the light of the tragedy at Grenfell. In addition, she significantly contributed to the Butterworths' publication 'Health and Safety Law: Enforcement and Practice' by Matthews and Ageros.

Laura also sits as a Deputy Traffic Commissioner and was formerly a board member for the Freight Transport Association (FTA).

Laura is based at our Ipswich office.
