Greg is a Senior Associate in our Commercial Property Team. Greg joined Birketts as a Trainee in September 2011 and qualified in September 2013.
Greg has experience in most areas of property law including: commercial and residential development (where he has long-standing relationships with a number of house builder clients); strategic land (acting on option agreements, promotion agreements, acquisitions and developments for regional and national developer clients and sales to developers and promoters); real estate finance (with a particular specialism in development finance), acting for both lenders and borrowers (including well-known names and challenger banks); landlord and tenant (including acting for landlords and tenants on the grant of leases subleases, and reversionary leases, and the completion of surrenders and assignments); and acquisitions and disposals (including portfolio acquisitions and disposals) of commercial property. Greg has also developed an expertise in dealing with surplus leasehold properties over a number of years, working to mitigate leasehold liabilities for major public companies.
Whilst Greg acts for a number of significant local clients, his practice stretches across the breadth of the country.
Recent work highlights for Greg include: leading on the acquisition of a 206,000 square foot warehouse for a major international client; acting for a lender on a £10m development finance facility; leading on the property elements of an £9m refinance in the leisure sector; and heading up a project team dealing with the management of a portfolio of 30+ surplus leasehold retail properties across England and Wales.
As well as his commercial property practice, Greg sits within the Strategic Land, Public Sector and Real Estate Finance sector groups at Birketts, providing commercial property input on a range of transactions.
Greg studied Law at the University of Dundee, graduating in 2007. He then undertook a master’s degree in International Law, focusing particularly on international contractual law and financial regulation. He completed the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in York in 2010.
