Jade joined Birketts in September 2018 as a Paralegal in our Residential Property Team and has been working with the Residential Development and Social Housing Team since July 2019.
Before joining Birketts Jade attended the University of East Anglia to study Law. During the final year of her degree and for a year post-graduation, Jade gained experience in an in-house property team at a major regional registered provider of social housing. Jade has since achieved Graduate member status with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and is working towards becoming a Fellow.
Jade deals with a variety of social housing matters, including acquiring land and affordable units on behalf of housing associations, drafting shared ownership leases and preparing newly developed sites for affordable unit sales. Jade also has experience in negotiating and completing infrastructure agreements, including section 104 agreements, section 38 / 278 agreements, and agreements for substations and electricity cable easements.
Jade advises clients on niche areas of social housing law and has a particular interest in the Right to Buy and Right to Acquire schemes. She has experience in drafting and completing leases and transfers for both housing associations and local authorities which are subject to the schemes. She also has experience in the administration of applications for the scheme and dealing with post-completion matters, including the repayment of discount, right of first refusal, and remortgaging.
Jade recently delivered a training session for a local authority client covering the mortgagee protection clause contained in Homes England’s model shared ownership lease and the law surrounding the postponement of the Right to Buy discount repayment charge.
Jade is based at our Norwich office.
