Bina Salam qualified as a Solicitor in September 2004 and joined Birketts in September 2021. She was promoted to Senior Associate in October 2023.
Bina is a Senior Associate in the residential real estate team in Chelmsford. She advises a broad range of clients on the full spectrum of residential property transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, remortgages, transfers of equity and other complex and high-value matters. Much of her work comes from repeat instructions and professional referrals, reflecting the long-standing relationships she has built throughout her career.
Bina leads Birketts’ residential Islamic finance team and is recognised for her expertise in Sharia-compliant property finance. She has worked in this specialist area since Islamic finance was first introduced in the UK and advises borrowers, investors and corporate clients on a wide range of Islamic property finance transactions, acting on both individual matters and substantial property portfolios. Her clients include high-net-worth individuals, professional investors and overseas clients, including those based in the Middle East. Through her leadership in this sector, Bina has developed strong relationships with specialist finance brokers, lenders and lender solicitors, enabling her to deliver practical and commercially focused solutions for her clients. Her extensive experience and established industry network provide clients with the benefit of deep market knowledge and a thorough understanding of the unique requirements of Sharia-compliant property finance transactions.
A recent example of Bina’s work involved acting on a sole representation basis for a corporate borrower in connection with the refinance of a portfolio of 24 residential properties. She successfully satisfied all lender requirements and completed the transaction within a challenging timeframe, enabling the client to achieve its target completion date.
Prior to joining Birketts, Bina worked in volume conveyancing and successfully operated her own online law firm, advising on all aspects of residential property. Her client base included portfolio landlords, expatriate clients and high-net-worth individuals in the UK and overseas. Within the Islamic Finance sector, she has also acted as an in-house solicitor for a lender and as a panel solicitor on a closed lending panel, giving her a unique perspective on both borrower and lender requirements.
