Deborah Carrivick
Deborah is a Partner in our Private Client Advisory Team. She founded and heads up our International Private Client Team.
Deborah has over 26 years’ experience of advising international families on all aspects of UK tax, trust and succession law. She also advises international trust and fiduciary providers, family offices and global financial institutions on multi-jurisdictional trust and governance issues.
Her work includes advising on tax residence and domicile, the tax and succession implications of non-resident and/or non-domiciled individuals owning assets in the UK (in particular the acquisition, structuring and ownership of UK real estate), cross-jurisdictional succession advice and advising on the UK tax treatment of offshore trusts and companies with UK resident beneficiaries or participators. Deborah also has particular expertise in drafting complex precedent and bespoke trust documentation, governed by a variety of international laws.
She also has experience of drafting Shariah compliant Wills and trusts and of advising clients on the UK tax treatment of Alternative Finance.
Deborah regularly travels internationally to meet clients and to attend industry events. She regularly speaks at events and to clients, referrers on technical matters.
She qualified as a Solicitor in September 1998.
Recent work highlights
Advising clients on the proposed new tax laws (to be implemented in April 2025), including consideration of relocation options and means of living in the UK tax efficiently under the new regime.
Assisting a Swiss trust company with the move of its entire book of
trust business to a new jurisdiction, including devising and drafting
restructuring documents and completing the same for multiple trusts.
Advising clients on the beneficial use of double tax agreements and estate tax treaties.
