Having qualified as a Solicitor in March 2016, Edward joined Birketts in 2017 and is a Senior Associate in our Commercial and Technology Team based in our Norwich office.

He is a member of the firm’s Charities Team and Education Team and a specialist in both competition and consumer regulation.

Edward is a recognised commercial contracts expert within the charity and social enterprise sector, frequently in demand to speak at conferences and events (having spoken at conferences organised by Hospice UK and the Institute of Fundraising). Edward has advised a number of high-profile charities in respect of diversifying revenue streams (including membership structures, e-commerce platforms and facilities hire), regulated fundraising (including commercial participation and professional fundraising) and sponsorship. Edward was part of the team that helped set up the UK Cyber Security Council.

Edward is also well established in the education sector, frequently advising both higher and further education institutions on estate commercialisation, sponsorship, education concession, international agency and parent contracts and related policies (independent schools).

Additionally, Edward advises on wide range of general commercial matters, including domestic and international distribution and agency, outsourcing, contractual joint ventures, asset commercialisation, e-commerce and non-regulated procurement.

Advising a public research university in connection with an EFL League One Football club relating to the provision of various services and promotional rights.

Advising a national charity in connection with receipt of a Government grant and associated sub-contracting arrangements.

Advising independent schools in connection with the removal of independent school fees VAT exemption.
