Ian is a Chartered Legal Executive and a member of the firm’s Social Housing Team.
Ian’s main area of expertise is in housing management law, and his practice includes advising on and drafting claims in anti-social behaviour cases, and defending disrepair claims, as well as advocacy in possession and injunction cases for the firm’s social housing clients in the County Court and the Court of Protection.
Prior to joining Birketts, Ian worked for three years in another large firm, four years in a local government legal team and eight years in private practice for two firms, during which he provided advice and advocacy in housing management, environmental health, welfare benefits and homelessness cases. Ian also provided legal advice to local authority committees in homelessness and licensing law.
Ian regularly presents training courses to clients of Birketts and is a member of the Social Housing Lawyers Association.

Advice and advocacy in the Court of Protection and County Court in a possession case involving serious hoarding and anti-social behaviour for a housing association client.
Advice and advocacy in the County Court in a case involving serious neglect of a listed building and obtaining a temporary vacant possession injunction.
