Joris Salden
Joris joined Birketts in September 2023 and is a Solicitor in the Commercial Real Estate Team in our Cambridge office. Joris works with the team advising investors, occupiers and developers on a wide range of commercial property matters with a particular focus on strategic land promotion and development and acting for landowners and occupiers on managing their assets, especially development leasing.
Prior to starting his training contract at a leading East of England firm, Joris was a Paralegal and a Conveyancer and gained over seven years’ experience in commercial and residential property. This included dealing with freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, commercial leases, new build purchases, plot sales, re-mortgages, shared ownership, help to buy and first registrations.
As a Trainee, Joris assisted with numerous complex property transactions. He dealt with small business owners, real estate investors, developers, government agencies, charities and educational institutions. A significant proportion of his work was for a national developer who builds both residential and commercial property. He also dealt with several high value acquisitions for one of the country’s largest quarrying and waste management companies, which focused on the restoration of landfill sites and recycling services. Joris assisted both landlord and tenant clients by advising on any weaknesses and issues that may have arisen from leases. He also drafted lease renewals and assisted with completing new leases.
During his training contract, Joris completed a seat in the Corporate Team where he assisted on a range of matters including the sale, purchase and restructuring of businesses together with lending arrangements for companies. Joris also undertook a seat in the Dispute Resolution Team. He dealt with several cases involving contentious probate, breaches of contract, tort, negligence claims and insolvency matters.
Joris is originally from Belgium and is a native Dutch speaker who came to the UK to study law and qualify as a Solicitor. Joris spends much of his time outside work with his young son and enjoys taking him to football. Joris is also a keen sailor and qualified sailing instructor, who used to teach sailing to children.
