Lucy joined Birketts as a Trainee Solicitor in September 2017, qualifying into our Private Client Advisory Team in September 2019.
Lucy advises on all aspects of private client advisory including succession and tax planning, lifetime gifts, trust creation, trust and tax advice and Lasting Powers of Attorney. Lucy provides advice on all aspects of Will making, including Inheritance Tax planning and the inclusions of trusts under the Will. Lucy also advises on mental capacity issues and has a particular interest assisting elderly and vulnerable clients with managing their personal and financial affairs, including advising them on making Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney. Lucy also has experience advising and assisting attorneys appointed under a Lasting Power of Attorney to carry out their roles, legal duties and responsibilities.
Lucy has a wide range of experience dealing with probate applications and administering estates. She is experienced in advising and assisting executors to administer both non-taxable and taxable estates and in dealing with more complex estates, for example, those including business and agricultural assets. Lucy is able to guide and advise executors and beneficiaries throughout each stage of the probate process, including the terms of the deceased’s Will, Inheritance Tax issues, the collection of assets, distributions and making after death variations of a beneficiary’s entitlement under the Will. Lucy also has experience dealing with estates where the deceased passed away without making a Will and advises on both the legal implications of this as well as practical considerations, such as tracing beneficiaries.
