Richard joined Birketts in July 2020 and is a Senior Associate in the Real Estate Finance Team in Norwich.
Originally raised in Norfolk, Richard then studied for his law degree at the University of Lincoln and graduated in 2013. Following this he completed the Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Law School in 2014.
Richard began his legal career at a local firm in Norwich and qualified as a Solicitor in March 2017. Following this Richard left Norwich to work for a firm in Lincolnshire for three years covering a variety of areas of both residential and commercial property whilst also aiding other areas of that firm regarding property aspects.
Richard joined Birketts as part of the Real Estate Finance Team in Norwich. The team advises a wide range of lenders and borrowers on security over development sites (residential or commercial), investment properties, owner occupied properties and property portfolios. They are regularly instructed by lenders and investors, as well as borrowers and companies seeking finance. Clients include major high street lenders; challenger banks and private funders and they can advise on facilities varying from small business loans to multi million pound facilities.
Richard is the lead for bridging finance work within the team and specialises in advising lenders and borrowers in respect of the same in property transactions. Richard regularly works to high pace turnaround whilst maintaining thorough due diligence and scrutiny over matters. Which is crucial when clear practical advice is key regardless of the pace of the matter.
Other lender work Richard advises on is in relation to the matters affecting their security post completion such as discharge, priority ranking, registration issues and substituted security.
Outside of work, Richard regularly likes to attend music festivals and gigs having attended Glastonbury, Bestival, Latitude, Truck Festival to name a few. He also enjoys discovering new music artists to listen to.
Richard is a supporter of Norwich City Football Club.
