Stephanie Butler
Stephanie is an Associate in our Property Litigation Team, having qualified in September 2018. She is a leading member of the firm’s Home Ownership Disputes and TOLATA practice.
Stephanie specialises in advising private individuals on equitable and co-ownership disputes. She has often been called upon to represent parents, adult children, and former co-habitees in their applications under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 (‘TOLATA’) in connection with jointly owned property. She also has a track record of resolving these family/ domestic disputes via discussions and mediation.
Stephanie also has a broad range of experience in other areas of property litigation, such as boundary and right of way disputes.
Stephanie is a member of both the Property Litigation Association and Resolution. The latter is a national network of family lawyers committed to the constructive resolution of family disputes.
Stephanie graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2013 with a first-class degree in History. She then did the Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School.
Stephanie is based in our Cambridge office.
Recent work highlights
Stephanie recently represented a client in a cohabitee dispute that went to a five-day trial. Stephanie was able to successfully argue at trial that her client’s ex-partner was solely responsible for discharging the mortgage from the ex-partner’s share of the sale proceeds, based on a collateral contract between the parties.
