Paul joined Birketts in August 2018. He is a Partner in our Commercial Property Team.
Paul attended Oxford University and The College of Law, London. Between qualifying in March 2004 and joining Birketts, Paul worked for a top City law firm.
Paul has experience across the built environment sector, acting for landlords, tenants, investors, developers and funders, both from the UK and from overseas. In particular he has expertise acting for institutional investors on higher-end acquisitions, disposals and pro-active asset management programmes across a range of properties - from ‘trophy’ London office premises, prime retail on New Bond Street to out of town retail or industrial parks. In all cases Paul works closely with clients and their other advisors to ensure appropriate legal frameworks and structures are in place to achieve the commercial objectives.
Instructed by high profile corporate occupiers, Paul has provided advice across broad client portfolios, dealing with day to day landlord and tenant matters, head office lettings, data centres, sale and leaseback transactions and complex re-gearing strategies.
On the development side Paul has worked on long term redevelopments of individual buildings as well as much wider schemes for residential and associated development, drawing in planning and construction expertise as appropriate and working up service charge and estate management schemes to suit the particular project. He is familiar with strategic land and promotion agreements, options and overage agreements, acting for major housebuilder clients here at Birketts. He is also increasingly involved in commercial real estate within the public sector.
Paul’s approach is responsive and commercial – a calm negotiator who gets things done.
Outside of work, Paul is an avid (long-suffering) supporter of Everton FC, enjoys all sports and loves to hear of people’s travels now that his own are curtailed by young children.
Paul is based in our Ipswich office.
