Edward is a member of the firm’s charities team and education team and a specialist in both competition and consumer regulation.
Edward is a recognised commercial contracts expert within the charity and social enterprise sector, frequently in demand to speak at conferences and events (having spoken at conferences organised by Hospice UK and the Institute of Fundraising). He has advised a number of high-profile charities on diversifying revenue streams (including membership structures, e-commerce platforms and facilities hire), regulated fundraising (including commercial participation and professional fundraising) and sponsorship.
Edward is also well established in the education sector, frequently advising both higher and further education institutions on estate commercialisation, sponsorship, education concession, international agency and parent contracts and related policies (independent schools).
Additionally, Edward advises on a wide range of general commercial matters, including domestic and international distribution and agency, outsourcing, contractual joint ventures, asset commercialisation and non-regulated procurement.
Finally, Edward provides advice in the CMA-regulated space, including:
- UK and EU competition law, covering:
- structuring and implementing selective and exclusive distribution systems, joint ventures and other commercial agreements;
- applying safe harbours offered by block exemptions (including the Vertical Agreements Block Exemption and the Technology Transfer Block Exemption); and
- UK consumer law, covering:
- supporting businesses in structuring, setting up and managing direct-to-consumer sales channels, whether in-store, online, distance or off-premises; and
- ensuring operational processes and consumer-facing terms are lawful and fully compliant with consumer law.
