George Chetwood
George is currently working in our Shipping and International Trade Team as a Graduate Solicitor Apprentice.
George graduated with a 1:1 in Geography from Royal Holloway University of London, achieving an upper 1st class dissertation on the impacts of Brexit and the Covid-19 Pandemic on Global supply chains. In 2021 George subsequently undertook the Graduate Diploma in Law at the University of East Anglia; Graduating in 2022 with a 2:1 completing his dissertation on the comparison of international maritime arbitration rules.
Prior to joining Birketts, George chose to expand his skillset within the hospitality sector while continuing his studies. This experience has given George a strong background in customer service and numerous skills that translate well into the legal world.
As a Graduate Solicitor Apprentice, George has the opportunity to learn Shipping in practice, to one day qualify as a Solicitor specialising in Shipping and International Trade. He shadows Partners within the team, manages a caseload of files under supervision and assists the team as a whole.
George is undertaking a Level 7 legal apprenticeship in our Norwich and Ipswich offices. When he has completed the 2-year apprenticeship and passes the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) he will qualify as a Solicitor. George is also undertaking the additional SQE+ Masters course with the University of Law in London.
