Jaden Johnson, or Jay as he is better known, joined Birketts in September 2021 and qualified as a Solicitor into our commercial litigation team in September 2023. Jay is based predominantly in our London office but also operates out of our Chelmsford office.
Jay acts in a wide variety of disputes, including in relation to: civil fraud, international trade, contentious insolvency, professional negligence, energy, complex debt recovery, M&A, director and shareholder disagreements, defamation and breach of confidence. Jay advocates at a range of hearings often as an alternative to counsel.
Jay is passionate about social mobility and, as creator of Birketts’ Social Mobility Insight into Law Experience (SMILE) programme and co-lead of Birketts’ Social Mobility Network, helps the firm develop its role in improving access to the legal profession for people from all backgrounds.
Prior to joining Birketts, Jay achieved a Distinction in the Legal Practice Course alongside a master’s degree in Law, Business and Management after graduating from the University of Kent with an undergraduate degree in Law, all whilst occupying various part-time jobs.
Recent work highlights
Being a core member of the team advising Thurrock Borough Council on it’s widely publicised, £150 million claim for commercial fraud.
Defending a claim for £1.5 million in relation to unlawful means conspiracy, unjust enrichment and dishonest assistance.
Leading the defence of claims brought by joint liquidators against two former directors of a financial services company with a quantum of £1.25m. Jay obtained this instruction for Birketts.
Obtaining a favourable settlement when defending a complex breach of contract claim against a marketing client with a potential quantum of £1.2 million.
A civil fraud claim against an educational services provider that defrauded a local authority which was attempting to procure adult maths proficiency services.
Managing a multi-jurisdictional, multi-disciplinary dispute for a life sciences company which involved jurisdiction and breach of restrictive covenant related issues.
