Josh Ripman

Josh joined Birketts in 2012 and is a Partner in the firm’s commercial dispute resolution team.

He acts for both corporate and individual clients across a broad range of industries and sectors and has significant experience of conducting litigation in both the County Court and High Court. Josh is a tenacious litigator who is recognised for providing clear, pragmatic and commercially focused advice, particularly in relation to high value and complex disputes.

Josh advises on a wide range of contentious matters, including contractual disputes, negligence claims against professionals, debt recovery, insolvency-related matters and other commercial conflicts. He regularly assists clients at every stage of the dispute resolution process, from early strategic advice and pre-action negotiations through to trial, enforcement proceedings and alternative dispute resolution, including mediation.

In addition to acting in a broad range of commercial disputes, Josh advises a number of regional and national housebuilders, predominantly supporting customer care teams in relation to post-sale disputes and claims.

Josh has extensive experience of insolvency-related litigation and regularly acts for petitioning creditors in relation to winding-up and bankruptcy proceedings. He also represents businesses and individuals faced with insolvency action, including obtaining urgent injunctive relief where winding-up petitions have been presented improperly or as an abuse of process.

Josh is also Head of Birketts’ debt recovery team. In that role, he leads a specialist team acting for a diverse client base ranging from SMEs and family-owned businesses to national and multinational organisations. The team handles high-volume debt recovery portfolios as well as complex and contested recovery and enforcement matters, providing practical and cost-effective solutions designed to maximise cash recovery while protecting commercial relationships.
