Mark joined Birketts as an Associate in early 2024. Mark works within the Clean Energy Real Estate Team based in our Bristol office.
His focus is on Energy and Utilities matters, working closely with Stuart Cleak and Jade Urbanski.
Mark has over 20 years’ experience advising on real estate matters, including a range of landlord and tenant issues. His specialist area is energy and infrastructure which he finds a fascinating sector to work in due to its ever-evolving nature and the increasing impact it has on all aspects of real estate. His core focus is on energy storage, solar (from large scale through to rooftop) development and EV/sustainable transport sector acting for predominantly developer clients.
Mark has worked on a wide range of renewable projects being involved right from the start of a project including helping draft HOTs and precedent documentation for a consistent portfolio approach. He also spent a year on secondment at a renewables developer where he learnt what the commercial drivers are for a client and what their key concerns are in the property documents.
Mark prides himself on delivering responsive and commercially minded advice and always working to ensure the outcome of a matter aligns with the client’s goals. Through his work across the telecoms and utility sectors, as well as renewable energy and asset management works, he has developed a sense of operational requirements for clients and helping him to understand and tailor advice accordingly.
Recent work highlights
Acting for EV charge point providers including carrying out title review reports and the drafting and negotiation of leases for the deployment of the charge point.
Acting for large photovoltaic/battery developers with the negotiation of options and leases across a number of sites and dealing with ancillary documents such as easements to enable the deployment of the photo voltaic/battery installation to the electricity network.
Assisting with the review of a large portfolio of sites for a large anaerobic digestion contractor.
