Michael Corsham

Michael Corsham qualified as a Solicitor in 2016 and joined Birketts in 2023 as a Senior Associate in the public sector team.

Since joining the firm, Michael has advised on a broad portfolio of complex public procurement and commercial projects for local authorities, local authority‑owned companies and corporate clients. He qualified as a Solicitor in 2016 and joined Birketts in 2023 as a Senior Associate in the Public Sector Team.

Michael’s practice spans the Procurement Act 2023, the Provider Selection Regime, the legacy EU derived procurement regulations and the Subsidy Control Act 2022. His expertise includes advising on procurement strategy and competitive tendering, evaluation methodology, direct award justifications, contract modifications and procurement law risk mitigation. Before joining Birketts, Michael was a Senior Lawyer in the Government Legal Department (GLD) advising the Ministry of Justice on nationally significant procurements and commercial projects such as the filming of sentencing remarks.

Prior to the GLD, Michael worked as an in house legal adviser at a local authority, advising on contracts and governance. His combined experience across local and central government gives him a strong understanding of the operational and statutory framework in which public sector bodies deliver complex projects.

As well as advising on commercial ‘business as usual’ contract management and contractual documentation, Michael has advises on a range of public sector-specific issues, and provides specialist input on complex transactions and contentious matters.
