Peter Bartholomew is an Associate in our shipping and international trade team.
Peter joined Birketts as a Trainee Solicitor in September 2020 and qualified as a Solicitor in September 2022.
Peter advises clients on a wide range of shipping litigation matters, including charterparty disputes and cargo claims, and is regularly involved in LMAA Arbitration and High Court proceedings. Peter also assists with matters concerning freight forwarding and logistics, and marine insurance disputes.
Prior to joining Birketts, Peter graduated from the University of Warwick in 2017 with an upper second-class degree in History, before completing the GDL and the LPC LLM in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Law between 2017 and 2019, attaining a Commendation and a Distinction, respectively.

Advising and acting for respondent cargo interests in LMAA arbitration proceedings concerning a General Average dispute with shipowners.
Advising claimant shipowners on a breach of warranty claim exceeding £10m against the sellers of a vessel.
Acting for claimant cargo interests in High Court proceedings concerning dispute regarding the alleged misdelivery of a cargo at Belawan, Indonesia.
Acting for claimant disponent shipowners in LMAA proceedings concerning a claim against charterers for unpaid deadfrieght.
