Sarah Bull qualified as a Solicitor in March 2003 and joined Birketts in 2023, having previously worked at a City practice and in the London office of a US law firm.
She is a Partner and heads up our London employment team.
Sarah has considerable experience advising on the full spectrum of employment issues, from recruitment to termination and litigation. Her practice includes dealing with senior executives’ contractual documentation and exits; complex disputes, conduct and performance issues; whistleblowing and grievances; large scale redundancy and restructuring exercises; employment issues arising out of outsourcings, acquisitions and disposals (especially UK acquisitions and acqui-hires by foreign businesses); employment status; harassment and discrimination. She also regularly advises on partner exits and restrictive covenants.
Sarah has a particular focus on coordinating international projects and managing day-to-day international employment advice for clients operating in multiple jurisdictions including advising on compliance and audits. She regularly advises on recruiting workers abroad and the use of Employers of Record (EOR). Recently Sarah has been working with her international clients to ensure they are ready for changes arising out of the Employment Rights Act 2025.
Sarah has substantial experience advising both employers and individuals in the financial services sector. Her clients include investment management firms, insurers, tech start-ups and scale-ups, international and national charities and non-profits and a range of international businesses.
Recent work highlights
- Advising a US tech company on its acqui hire of the employees of a small UK company and whether or not TUPE applied.
- Advising a US retail company on its fast growth entry into the UK market including compliance with ERA 2025 and the application of US workforce policies.
- Day to day advice and support to a US asset management firm on employment and SMCR related issues including sensitive exits.
