Domestic Abuse Bill reintroduced

05 December 2019

The Queen’s speech confirmed the Domestic Abuse Bill will be reintroduced, described by the former Prime Minister Theresa May as a ‘charter for victims’.

It will create a statutory definition of domestic abuse which would include economic, emotional and coercive abuse.

The proposed comprehensive package of measures to tackle abuse, for example allowing the victims of domestic abuse to give evidence in court via video link, are welcomed by charities who provide support for victims.

The proposals include a statutory Domestic Abuse Commissioner would be appointed.
