Abbie is a Trainee Solicitor currently in her third seat in Corporate in our London office.  Abbie is working alongside a team of eight corporate lawyers, assisting on various corporate matters including mergers & acquisitions, group reorganisations and general company law matters.

Abbie’s second seat was in Property Litigation.  Abbie worked on a wide range of contentious issues for both private individuals and commercial clients including boundary disputes, residential disputes, trespass and breach of licence issues, break clauses and applications for consent.  Abbie also worked on co-ownership disputes, including claims under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 (TOLATA).

Abbie’s first seat was in the Charities Team.  Abbie assisted members of the Charities team on a broad range of matters, including carrying out governance reviews, restructuring existing charities (including incorporations, mergers and dissolutions) and updating governance arrangements of existing charities.  

Prior to Abbie’s Trainee Solicitor role, Abbie was a Paralegal in our Employment Team from March 2019 to September 2022.  Abbie’s role focused on contentious matters predominantly where she represented employers in unfair dismissal, discrimination, equal pay and wages claims, supervised by a partner in the team.  Abbie also worked with employers to review their employment contracts and HR policies to bring them in line with best practice and current legislation.

With regard to education, Abbie graduated with a 2:1 in her law degree from City, University of London in July 2018.  Abbie studied her Legal Practice Course (LPC LLM) at the University of Law in Moorgate with a Distinction, whilst working at Birketts full-time.  In her LPC LLM, Abbie chose to carry out electives in Employment Law, Commercial Law, Advanced Real Estate and Family Law.   She completed her LLM in Employment Law, focusing on the topic of Employment Status, a complex area of law predominantly governed by case law and recently considered by the Supreme Court in Uber BV and others (Appellants) v Aslam and others (Respondents) [2021] UKSC 5.

Abbie’s other experience includes work placements with law firms in the City during her degree, working pro bono in a Legal Advice Centre and working as a legal intern in-house with Group Legal Counsel at a yacht distribution company in London.

Abbie enjoys running and has completed two half marathons in 2023 (the Battersea half marathon and the London “Big Half” marathon).  Abbie has set up an internal Run Club to encourage colleagues to get outside and get fit while having the opportunity to socialise.  Abbie also enjoys travelling, particularly hot climates with natural beauty.

Abbie enjoys making new connections and attends many external, in-person and virtual, networking events.  Abbie is particularly passionate about internal networking and created the Birketts Paralegal Network during her time as a Paralegal.
