The long overdue review of our divorce system to introduce ‘no fault’ divorce is back on the agenda following the recent Queen’s speech.
The Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Bill will introduce no fault divorces allowing for easier separation and a 20 week timeline for divorce proceedings.
Until it is passed this leaves many in unhappy marriages who will have to rely on the current system of fault divorce (unreasonable behaviour or adultery) unless both are prepared to wait and agree to divorce after two or five years separation. This can often make discussions about children arrangements and finances very difficult, a family mediator can help you to talk about these issues in a calm environment and to support you both in making future plans for your family.
Our expert and experienced mediators can help.
