Gavin Birchall

Gavin re-joined Birketts in April 2023 and is a Partner who heads up the Tax and Trusts Team.

Gavin has a particular specialism in land and property taxes. He has advised landowners, consortiums of landowners and landed estates on a range of tax issues on aspects such as strategic land disposals, business succession planning, significant capital projects and on environmental schemes such as bio-diversity net gain units.

Gavin is also a trusted tax advisor for a number of business owners, high net-worth individuals and their families. This role includes providing strategic tax advice as well as managing their tax affairs.

As well as being a solicitor, Gavin has a Masters Degree in Tax Law. Gavin is also a member of the Stamp Taxes Practitioners Group which is a grouping of fellow SDLT and stamp taxes specialists who have regular dialogue with HMRC on issues affecting these taxes and on developments in interpretation of the tax legislation.

Before re-joining Birketts, Gavin spent a number of years as a co-owner of a large regional accountancy practice. This has given Gavin first-hand experience of operating an owner managed business and a strong background in both tax advisory and practical tax compliance aspects.
