Catherine is a Senior Associate in our Employment Team and is based in Norwich.

Catherine has a wealth of experience in all areas of employment law. She primarily advises employers (respondents) on both contentious and non-contentious matters, with a particular focus on managing employment tribunal claims. She takes a pragmatic and commercial approach, advising clients on the merits of their case, their options and the proportionality of litigating through the employment tribunal.

Catherine’s more generalist advisory work also covers drafting of employment contracts, policies and procedures, advising and guiding clients through complex disciplinaries, grievances and dismissals, restructures and redundancies, settlement agreements, TUPE and other regulatory matters.

Catherine also advises individuals (claimants) including company directors, having experience representing several claimants in the employment tribunal (including undertaking advocacy) as well as regularly advising on agreed exits via settlement agreements.

Catherine has significant experience advising clients within the public sector including social housing and NHS organisations. She also has particular expertise in the care and ecclesiastical sectors.

Catherine also works closely with colleagues across all teams, assisting with and advising on employment issues arising from corporate, property and agricultural matters. She is part of our equine sector group and is therefore well-positioned to assist equestrian clients in respect of employment law issues including advice on employment status, drafting contracts and dealing with employment-related disputes.

Originally from Barnsley, Catherine studied at the University of East Anglia from which she graduated with a 2.1 degree in Law in 2006. Catherine went on to study the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School in Leeds and then returned to Norwich for her training after spending three years as an employment Paralegal at a Rotherham-based firm.

Catherine has volunteered for and continues to support the Norfolk Community Law Service, providing pro-bono employment advice to individuals.

Outside of work, Catherine has a keen interest in art and enjoys painting as a hobby. In 2021 she undertook a fine art diploma with the Anteros Arts Foundation in Norwich. She enjoys most sports, playing netball for a local team and continues to support Barnsley FC from afar, despite a strong influence from her husband and stepson to change allegiance to Norwich City FC!
