Alex is a Senior Associate in the Corporate Team in Chelmsford. He qualified as a Solicitor in March 2015 after completing his training contract with Birketts.

In the corporate sector Alex regularly advises on acquisitions by large corporate groups, company disposals by individual shareholders, and corporate reorganisations. He has acted for international groups on cross-border acquisitions and disposals in a variety of different sectors. In addition, Alex regularly advises a broad range of clients from start-ups to established businesses on shareholder investments, shareholder partial exits and corporate governance matters. 

Most recently, Alex has been involved in acting on a number of corporate transactions in the private equity sector, including new investments by private equity investors and disposals by private equity owned portfolio companies. He is also a member of Birketts’ Food Sector Group, which brings together fee-earners in the firm with particular experience in acting for clients in the Food sector.

In the finance sector, Alex has acted for both borrower and lender clients, including high street banks and private lenders. He has experience of dealing with refinancing transactions and new funding matters, as well as amendments to and novations of existing finance arrangements and security.

Recent transactions on which Alex took a leading role include:

  • Advising global composite manufacturer AOC on the sale of its subsidiary company AOC (UK) Ltd to BÜFA Composite Systems (BÜFA).
  • Advising the shareholders of Motocaddy Holdings Limited, the world’s leading golf trolley and cart bag brand, on the sale of a majority stake to private equity firm Ethos Partners.
  • Advising Hydro International, a Clevedon based provider of water management solutions, on the acquisition of M&N Electrical and Mechanical Services Ltd.

Alex is recommended and named as a ‘Rising Star’ by Legal 500 [UK 2024]. In this edition, a source notes “Our main point of contact was Alex Forwood. He showed a lot of common sense in balancing legal and commercial needs as well as making himself available to push the deal through.”

Prior to working for Birketts, Alex studied Law at the University of Southampton graduating in 2010, moving on to study the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the University of Law in London.

Outside of work Alex is an avid follower of e-sports, football and the NFL. He is also a keen (but unpredictable) golfer!
