Samuel Varney

Sam is an Associate Solicitor in our Corporate Team having joined Birketts in September 2019 and qualified as in September 2021 following the completion of his training contract. During Sam’s training, he sat with the Employment Team, Agricultural Estates Team, and Corporate Team in both the Norwich and Ipswich office.
Sam has had experience in advising on fundraising rounds, assisting in the acquisitions and disposals of companies in multi-million pound deals, fundraising rounds and business angel finance transactions, MBOs and re-organisations and capital markets work. Sam also represents Birketts at the Business Climate Leaders programme, run by Norfolk Chambers of Commerce, in supporting local business on the path to net zero and Anglian Capital Group, assisting start-ups on their journey in the commercial world.
Sam graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2017 with a First Class degree in Law and then spent 12 months as a paralegal in a local conveyancing firm in Norwich. In September 2018, Sam went on to study the Legal Practice Course at BPP University in Cambridge achieving a distinction classification, including electives in Employment, Private Acquisitions and Advanced Commercial Property.
During his degree, Sam volunteered at the Norfolk Community Law Service spending time in the Employment and Discrimination Legal Advice Service, before eventually becoming the Team Leader in 2016.
In his free time Sam enjoys playing golf and watching football. Outside of sports, Sam enjoys travelling having hiked Machu Picchu and hopes to visit more wonders of the world in the future.
