Abbie joined Birketts in March 2019. She is a Paralegal in our Employment Team.
Prior to joining Birketts Abbie graduated with a 2:1 in her law degree from City, University of London in July 2018. She has experience working in various law firms during her degree, working pro bono in a Legal Advice Centre and working as a legal intern in-house at a yacht distribution company in London.
In June 2020, she completed her Legal Practice Course (LPC LLM) at the University of Law in Moorgate with a Distinction, whilst working at Birketts full-time. She chose to carry out electives in Employment Law, Commercial Law, Advanced Real Estate and Family Law. She completed her LLM in Employment Law, focusing on the topic of Employment Status, a complex area of law predominantly governed by case law.
She works in our Employment Team assisting ten lawyers with a broad range of contentious and non-contentious matters. She is primarily responsible for preparing all documentation relating to Employment Tribunal claims, including drafting responses to claims, preparing bundles and drafting witness statements. She instructs counsel to represent our client at the hearing and then attends the Employment Tribunal hearing to ensure our client is comfortable and understands the process. In addition, she regularly reviews and drafts contracts of employment, staff handbooks and settlement agreements.
More recently, she has assisted her colleagues with Furlough Scheme related advice and redundancies.
She attends external networking events with the team and enjoys making new connections. She also assists with the preparation for – and host – Birketts’ client events.
Abbie is based in our Ipswich office.
