Tim is a Legal Director in our Construction and Engineering Team, based in our Ipswich office. He specialises in non-contentious engineering and construction law and has experience of contentious engineering and construction law too. Since qualifying, he has spent more than twenty-five years concentrating on construction law, advising on the JCT, NEC, CECA, IChem E, ICC, FIDIC and ICE suites. Tim has in depth knowledge of all types of ancillary construction documents, such as: consultants’ appointments, warranties, guarantees and indemnities, together with the documents required by funders.
Tim prides himself on his common sense approach to practising law that places an emphasis on the commercial outcome that a client has in mind. Tim has a wide range of experience and acts for multi-national companies, financial institutions, public, charitable and private sector procurers of construction and engineering work, contractors, subcontractors and consultants. Tim re-joins private practice after working in-house for a large civil engineering design and build contractor, a post he enjoyed as it gave him good experience of being at the sharp end of projects.
Projects in which Tim has been involved include: power stations, educational buildings, wind farms, residential developments, road and rail infrastructure and all types of commercial building. Land stabilisation and remediation are also areas in which Tim has had wide experience.
Tim’s power station and related infrastructure experience includes working with those building nuclear, anaerobic, coal and gas powered stations, as well as by biomass. In doing so, Tim has advised on the methods of procurement, the forms of contract, subcontract, performance bonds, parent company guarantees and other third party agreement required in projects to build power infrastructure and plant. Through his acting for funders and other stakeholders, Tim is well versed in advising on the type and form of documents so beloved by domestic and foreign lenders, as well as drafting and amending the same when required.
Tim’s residential project experience includes acting for large developers and builders. Tim frequently advises them on the forms of contract and other legal documents his clients are to employ. These legal documents often include those prepared by institutional funders in respect of their lending for the project. Tim is used to negotiating with lenders. He prepares the full suite of construction documents for use in large residential projects, but also clients who are looking to have a dream home built for them to their specification.
